poggy x yoppi ❤ new york
Through both the contemporary and traditional influence from two hemispheres, UNITED ARROWS & SONS x Hombre Niño have collaborated with Boston based sports lifestyle brand ’47 to create a distinctive new MLB collection.
Purveyors of elevated street fashion in Japan, Poggy of UA&S and YOPPI of HN, also have an affinity for baseball, which drove their idea to enhance high-end blazers with the insignias of MLB teams. ’47’s authentic tie to sport, a passion for premium quality goods, and a long-time relationship with the MLB, made them the right partner for this ambition.
Staying true to team color ways, the choke stripe material used in the jackets is symbolic of customary tailored looks, and a prominent inclusion in UA&S 2016 Fall/Winter collection. The two-toned MLB logos include elements from both UA&S x Hombre Niño brands, which can also be seen on matching ’47 headwear.
Donning NY Mets and Yankees pieces from the assortment, respectively, ’47 brought Poggy and YOPPI stateside for some quality time at Citi Field and other quintessential New York settings, filming as the two comrades reflected on the enviable freedom the city offers for taking on new challenges in fashion.
With MLB teams incorporated, the hope is that the younger generation –– those who can be timid to embrace higher fashion can be excited by these pieces. On the flip side, the collection will get their current following interested in baseball, if they aren’t already.
The ultimate dream? Seeing someone in any stadium pop up on the JumboTron wearing the getup.
Americans were credited with bringing baseball to Japan in the late 1800s, and a century later; its Ivy League fashion would be absorbed and developed by the Japanese culture. Today, Japan is a leader in sartorial menswear, and this ’47 collaboration seems to be a symbol of mutual influence the two regions have on each other when it comes to sport and style.
The collection launched at UNITED ARROW & SONS in Harajuku, Japan in the Mets, Yankees and Phillies.
